Complex Care Courses
Diabetes Care
In this module, you will learn how to safely support people living with diabetes through daily care, monitoring and observation. You will gain an understanding of the importance of blood glucose testing, insulin administration, dietary management and recognising early warning signs of hypo- or hyperglycaemia. The training also covers how lifestyle, medication and emotional wellbeing interact in diabetes care, as well as how to accurately record and promptly escalate changes in a person’s condition to clinical staff.
Complex Bowel Care
This module enhances your understanding of bowel anatomy and function and highlights the importance of consistent bowel routines in maintaining overall health. You will learn to recognise the signs of constipation, impaction, or bowel obstruction and how to assist with prescribed interventions such as enemas, suppositories, or digital stimulation under clinical guidance. The session also emphasises dignity, privacy and accurate documentation when managing complex bowel care.
Dysphagia (Swallowing Difficulties)
In this training, you will explore how swallowing works, what causes dysphagia and how to safely support individuals at risk of aspiration or choking. You will learn to identify signs of swallowing difficulty, understand texture-modified diets and thickened fluids and apply safe mealtime management techniques using IDDSI guidelines. Emphasis is placed on communication, teamwork and following individual mealtime management plans to promote comfort, safety and enjoyment of food.
Enteral Feeding Support
This module focuses on supporting clients who receive nutrition and hydration via percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) or radiologically inserted gastrostomy (RIG) tubes. You will learn about infection control, safe handling of feeds and equipment, correct positioning and monitoring for complications. The training emphasises the importance of accurate documentation, hygiene and escalation protocols when changes occur, ensuring clients receive safe and effective enteral feeding support.
Palliative Care
In the palliative care module, you will learn how to provide compassionate, person-centred care for individuals approaching the end of life. This includes understanding symptom management, pain relief, emotional support and addressing cultural or spiritual needs. You will also explore the importance of communication with families, respecting choices and advance care directives and maintaining dignity and comfort throughout all stages of care.
Pressure Care and Wound Management
This module will teach you how to identify pressure injury risks, implement prevention strategies and assist in wound management. You will learn correct repositioning techniques, the use of pressure-relieving devices and early recognition of skin changes. The course also covers basic wound assessment principles, hygiene standards and clear escalation pathways to ensure all wound care is carried out safely under clinical supervision.
Urinary Catheter Care
In this session, you will develop the skills to safely assist in the care and maintenance of urinary catheters. You will learn about different catheter types, the importance of infection prevention, fluid balance monitoring and how to identify and report complications such as blockages or signs of infection. Emphasis is placed on privacy, dignity, accurate documentation and communication with Registered Nurses to ensure client safety and comfort.
